The modern history of Italian sparkling wines was made by several gentlemen and their families, in different parts of the country, specially in Northern Italy with one exception in Sicily. Research and production of those wines started around 1850. It was a consistent pursuit to replicate the Champagne model that – in more recent times – became a rush to differentiate Italian sparkling wines by local terroirs and grapes and methods of managing the second fermentation. Diversity and technical skills are enabling Italy (from South to North) with the capacity to offer a rich and complex range of every kind of sparkling wines for every kind of customers.
